Welcome to Nashville Legal Line!

We all have problems and sometimes things happen that shouldn’t.  Unfortunate situations can lead to a scary outcome.  Whenever you are stuck in a legal predicament and you know that you are not responsible than you need the most experienced attorney by your side.  Being accused of a crime you know you didn’t commit can be draining on a person.  What are your rights in a Tennessee courtroom?  That is what a criminal defense attorney can do for you.  They can answer all your questions when in such a situation.

The list of criminal charges out there can range from DUI (Driving Under the Influence) and murder.  DUI, itself is on the rise.  It has been more rampant then most crimes out there.  The state of Tennessee has almost had up to 30,000 arrests in that category alone.  When you are pulled over for a traffic light stop and end up in handcuffs for smelling like alcohol than you should know your rights.  You should know what you can and cannot do.  When the arresting officer put you in handcuffs did he do everything properly?  Were you advised of your rights at that moment?  Were you even drinking that night?  Having a defense attorney by your side when you need it can eliminate the worry of going to court.  They will and can advise you of your rights.  They will consult on your possible outcomes.  How to compose yourself and the proper and right things to say when in the presence of the law.

This is very important because a person’s life can be destroyed over things like this.  If you are charged with a crime and want to have the best representation you need than consult an attorney.  Let them ask all the questions and answer them to the best of your knowledge.  Once on your side they are obligated to provide you with the right and exact facts needed in your best interest.  A client’s reputation may be at stake as well.  The law states “…innocent till proven guilty.”  You not only have the right to state your side but you also have the right to try and prove your innocence.

There may be times when you may not even be able to leave once being arrested.  An attorney can meet with you in jail and even go to court for you.  Want to post bail so you can start your defense strategy?  Your attorney can make it move faster so that you are able to get out sooner than speculated.

Some situations take more process than realized.  A DUI can be a complicated process.  Most often with DUI’s the courtroom is only the beginning of the process.  There may be required classes that you may have to take dependent on your charge.  Want to get your license sooner?  This may be possible with the advisement of an attorney.  Probation can be added.  How long will you be on it?  Is community service an option?  The important thing is to have someone on your side you know will give you the full attention you need.  Someone who represents himself or herself in the courtroom may be doing more harm than good.  Things can be said that shouldn’t be, and courtroom etiquette can get you lost.  There may have been a piece of evidence that was forgotten.

The attention and relaxation you need can be met when in a predicament like being arrested.  Feel at ease when you have someone behind you that will guide you through the experience.  Get some of the best representation that you can muster and know that you will be advised to your full extent.

In turn, she is now the one in jail, and he is an ex-con. My niece has never been in jail and this guy accused her of filing a false report. So if a single parent has suspicions of sexual abuse, we can't say anything? This man has a history of being abusive to his women.

He’s currently on a two-year probation, He's going to school and lives with his cousin who is a corrections officer. I'm paying the $1000.00 restitution fee. He has probation fees. He's not working. I'm a single parent just trying to do the best I can. My son having a record is not going to help his chances in life. He was represented by a public defender and says if he had had a criminal attorney that the sentence may have turned out different, I don't know and that's why Im emailing this question. • I was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign. However, the citation states I was traveling eastbound. I went to court on this yesterday and really wasn't aware what direction I had been going, I took the citation as correct. In court, as I was telling my details, the judge was quite confused with my telling of the case because the directions weren't adding up to be consistent. The officer then stated he was sorry, and restated in court that I was traveling westbound. Still the charging document states Eastbound. The judge apparently didn't care, and found me guilty anyway, even thought the previous case was similar to mine in which case the judge found that woman not guilty. Can I have this decision overturned on appeal because the citation stated EB when I was actually WB and initially the officer testified that I was traveling EB but then he said he was sorry, and that I was actually WB? Can this be dismissed or overturned?
  • The time on this Nashville speeding ticket is not correct. Can I beat the ticket?
  • My husband’s ex-wife lead police on a chase that ended in her own driveway. We went to her court appearance on Wednesday but it was postponed until May. She has 4 charges against her, 2 of which are felony charges. This will also be her 3rd DUI. We have also just learned that she will plead not guilty and will be claiming police brutality and will be suing for several million. What are the chances that she will win a case like that and is there a possibility that she will do some time over this? She has been in trouble numerous times for DUI and other charges. Also, if she is found guilty of the 3rd DUI, what is the punishment for that?
  • I am on probation for a felony DUI. I am due to get off in Aug. All conditions of probation have been met. I was just recently laid off from my job and have no family or other resources here in tennessee and would like to be able to move from the state. How can I go about this?
